Finding A good Plus Sized Sports Bra
Many plus women already feel quite challenged when it comes to clothing shopping but buying workout clothing is an even greater concern and can even cause anxiety for some. It’s not easy being a larger woman and hunting around for workout gear and not being able to find anything that is comfortable and fits is a quick way to discourage an active lifestyle change.
Most plus size stores do not even offer workout apparel. I am a size– and wear a size L-XL top in women’s sizes and I have shopped at sporting goods stores and out of the hundreds of workout tops available, I may only find a small handful of tops in an XL that I can even fit into. Although I love Nike, Puma and Reebok; none of those manufacturers design fitted workout tops with a size– or larger in mind. They cater to fit and smaller woman.
Just speaking about this makes me angry. It leaves larger women with no choice than to have to purchase large over sized t-shirts. Then is the next more frustrating thing for them; shopping for a sports bra. now if they don’t even make athletic wear available, do you honestly think plus sized women are going to find many options for plus sized sports bras to work out with? I didn’t think so. If anyone needs the support, it’s plus sized women too!
If you want an instant confidence boost, wear clothing that makes you feel good. Well that’s my motto at least and I am pretty certain a lot of women also feel this way. So if you want to make some serious health changes, invest in a good plus sized sports bra. I promise you, a good sports bra will make or break your healthy efforts. If a workout hurts you because you feel your breasts causing too much strain and discomfort then you aren’t going to want to do it again. At the same time, if you can workout with no pain due to your chest jiggling, you are more likely to move forward with your workouts.
I bet you are probably asking yourself “well where can I buy plus sized sports bras?” They do exist and I am not just talking about the few Champion sports bras that are available at Target or discount stores like Ross. In fact please think twice before settling for those types of sports bras. They may seem like a great solution because they are cheaper but sadly, you will end up either doubling up (wearing two bras at the same time) in order to get minimal support or you will discover they do not provide the right support and be frustrated with the discomfort.
10 years ago when I was a size 22, I remember buying a few sports bras from Target and when I compare those types of sports bras to the ones I have now, it amazes me that I would even have considered purchasing the Target ones. Not with today’s options of plus sized sports bras made by Moving comfort, ENELL and Shock Absorber. You can buy these amazing sports bras for about $40-90.00 through stores like Amazon or roadrunnersports.
