Bedroom Decorating Ideas For Less

Of all the areas in your home, the bedroom is probably one of the most neglected. Many homeowners tend to prioritize renovation in areas frequented by guests and non-members of the household. The budget for new decor is usually allotted to most visible areas of the house. This usually gives the bedroom one of the lowest priorities on the renovation list because it’s never seen by visitors at all.

You spend anywhere from 6 to 10 hours in the bedroom everyday. It’s your refuge, your comfort zone and personal place to rejuvenate, yet the one place that’s supposed to reflect your own personality is often disregarded. Furniture pieces are often left in disrepair, decorative items end up dirty and dusty, and the general decor is old and outdated. There’s nothing to make you proud or happy about the room; it’s just a room.

So how and where do you start changing that? If you are like most people, check your budget first and see how much you’re willing to spend on your dream room. If you’re willing to spend a little over the normal, it is easier to remove all the current furniture and start from scratch. But with the economy what it is, you will probably have to be resourceful and work with most of what you already have.

Before you start shopping for things, decide on a theme first. You have to ensure that all the furnishings will look good together. You don’t need an eyesore for your bedroom. Consider the practicalities of space and comfort. This is where you rest after all, so it must uphold its relaxing and cozy qualities.

Repainting is cheaper than wallpapering. Opting for one color is cheaper too compared to using multi-colors. If you have more bucks to spare for cans of paint, painting the ceiling is also a good decorating method for making everything look seamless. However, this is not a prerequisite for a successful decorating project. Painting the walls, actually even just the accent wall, which is usually the one behind the headboard is absolutely fine.

Bring plants or fresh flowers into your room to add life, color and even scent to the room. Artificial ones will do if you’re not the kind with a green thumb. Just be sure to position live plants near windows so that they can get enough sunlight.

Adding a large- or medium-sized area rug with colors or details that stand out from your color scheme is another cheap yet effective way to make your bedroom livelier and more interesting. Aside from being just a great room accent, it makes your room feel more comfortable because of its texture and soft feeling to the feet.

Rearrange your furniture, especially if you’re lacking in space. Choose things that should go and those that should be replaced in design, material or color. A chair for instance will look brand new with a fresh upholstery or cushion. You can polish or repaint the cabinets and drawers for more “new” furniture in your bedroom.

A simple change in beddings can instantly transform your room. If you have been using and alternating the same beddings for years, allot a budget for a new set. Match the color with the room’s motif.

If you’re lacking in compartment because of all the shopping you did these last years, purchasing decorative and dual purpose items is recommended. Ottomans with storage, pretty boxes and hip chests don’t occupy too much space but are handy with storage to keep your things. You can also keep things you don’t use or need just yet in bags or an extra suitcase and place them under the bed.

There are numerous ways to redecorate your personal refuge without endangering your bank account. It just takes a little patience and creativity. After all, what would be better than beginning and ending each day in your own personally designed sanctuary?
