Accuracy in measurements is perhaps the most important factor in getting the curtains stitched. One can take the measurements of the place where the curtains are supposed to be hung on their own or get it done from a professional.

A curtains size should be as per the required window, door or any other area of a living space. If the measurement and dimensions are not noted correctly, the curtains can look quite weird. Hence, care should be taken while measuring such fabric. This can be a tricky job because stretchable fabrics give a different measurement each time they are measured. If you are an expert in measuring such fabrics then it should not be a problem at all. To be on the safer side, it is better to hire the service of a professional who is experienced in this area.

Therefore it is always suggested to be on the safe side and take extra cloth before stitching which can be kept in the layer on the sides and the underneath of the curtains. A difference of a few inches should be added, while taking the size for the measurement lengthwise and width of the curtain, so that no hassles are faced later on.

Fourthly, if you are measuring the curtains yourself, then it is important to remember the scale in which you are noting down the measurements. You and the tailor who is supposed to stitch the curtain for you should have the same scales. For example, if you have measured the door frames in inches then you should buy the cloth in inches too and tell the tailor to cut it in inches as well. In case of any sort of confusion about the scale, i.e. if anyone, you or the tailor, mix up the measurements in yards or inches, a major disaster is bound to happen.

Instead of measuring the window, the pole of the window or the curtain track should be measured. This is a very crucial point that one should remember. Even when you are taking the curtain length you should decide how much fall you want in the curtain. This will identify the drop of the curtain on the floor, window or other. Lastly you should always start taking the measurement from the racks top till the end that you require the curtain to be.
